Before you begin:
Begin by casting on the required number of stitches. The hat is worked in stockinette stitch until the specified length is reached. The crown is then shaped by working decreases, switching to double-pointed needles as needed.
Next, return to the cast-on edge and pick up the same number of stitches along the opposite direction. This section is worked in the same way, again shaping the end with decreases.
To finish, one end of the panel is tucked into the other, and the bottom edge is folded to create the final hat shape.
